The Blue Climate Initiative is thrilled to be selected as one of the first flagship programs of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development. With this endorsement, we will be taking on new responsibilities to advance Ocean Decade programs. The UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development supports efforts to reverse the cycle of decline in ocean health and create improved conditions for sustainable development of the ocean.
Its ultimate ambition is to provide a “once in a lifetime” opportunity to create a new foundation, across the science-policy interface, to strengthen the management of the ocean. The Blue Climate Initiative is deeply honored to be selected to support the Ocean Decade program. We will be quickly ramping up our efforts to help meet the challenge of reversing the degradation of our oceans and combatting climate change. One of the first of these efforts will be a US$1 Million Ocean Innovation Prize that will be launched early this summer.
