Late last year the Blue Climate Initiative published an important paper entitled "Next Generation EV Batteries Eliminate the Need for Deep Sea Mining." Distilling months of research, the paper exposes the lie of the mining industry that we need to mine the deep sea and risk major environmental damage to feed the need for more electric vehicle (EV) batteries. The paper was co-authored by BCI's Jeanne Everett and Stan Rowland and University of California Berkeley's Professor of Energy Dan Kammen.

The paper was picked up by nearly 200 publications worldwide and widely covered in social media. It was also cited in another important paper published this year by the Environmental Justice Foundation, "Critical Minerals and the Green Transition: Do We Need to Mine the Deep Seas?", which provides further support for the fact that we don't need DSM.
